IIT Seeks Candidates for Three Endowed Faculty Positions in Energy, Power, and Sustainability
IIT currently has three open endowed professorship positions in engineering to support research and education in the area of energy: The Rowe Family Endowed Chair in Sustainable Energy, Grainger Chair in Electrical and Power Engineering, and Max McGraw Professor of Energy and Power Engineering and Management.

CAEE's newest faculty member, Dr. Cindy Menches' interview by ABC News.
Shortly after joining CAEE in January, Construction Management Assistant Professor, Dr. Cindy Menches, was on hand for an interview by ABC News regarding the abandoned construction site at Clark and Wacker. This project was abandoned in 2008 when the developer ran out of money, and the bank foreclosed on the property. The crane atop the structure causes concerns for safety, especially since cracks have been found in its concrete support slabs. There is also the risk of rust and other deterioration to the construction materials that have been left exposed to the elements.

Dr. Krishna Pagilla to Receive Prestigious Water Quality Award

Environmental Engineering Professor, Dr. Krishna Pagilla, will receive the prestigious Eddy Wastewater Principles/Processes Medal from the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international not-for-profit technical and educational water quality organization. The award will be presented during a ceremony at the organization’s 84th annual technical exhibition and conference this fall in Los Angeles, Calif.
The medal is awarded for research that makes a vital contribution to the existing knowledge of the fundamental principles or process of wastewater treatment, as comprehensively described and published in a WEF periodical.
Dr. Pagilla will be honored during WEFTEC® 2011, the largest annual water quality conference and exhibition in the world. Thousands of the world’s leading water quality experts and exhibiting companies are expected at the Los Angeles Convention Center from October 15-19, 2011.

ENVE Professor, Dr. Krishna Pagilla, Named WEF 2011 Fellow

In a June 15, 2011 Press Release, the Water Environment Federation named Dr. Krishna Pagilla among its 2011 Fellows. As stated on the
WEF Fellows Program website,"The WEF Fellows Program recognizes the professional achievement, stature and contributions of WEF members to the preservation and enhancement of the global water environment in the practice areas served by WEF ... WEF Fellow applicants will be considered by a selection committee approved by the Board of Trustees. Selected WEF Fellows may use the professional designation, WEF Fellow, after their name."

Alumni Spotlight
Bob Johnson (BS CE '69, MS CE '71) appeared in a television interview demonstrating some simple structural engineering principles. "For many many many years I've tried to get the local [Chicago] news media to cover the outreach programs of engineers to children, students. I finally achieve this success as Water Reclamation District Commissioner Frank Avila will interview me in a 30 minute program."
