Research Showcase
Associate Professor of Architectural Engineering Mohammad Heidarinejad collaborated with the nonprofit Elevate to publish a report showing how Chicago residents without air conditioning face deadly heat risks during extreme summer temperatures. The research found that many homes reached dangerously high indoor temperatures and remained hot overnight, highlighting the critical need for affordable cooling solutions. As climate change intensifies heatwaves, this data will be used to develop a heat vulnerability index that will inform policies that protect vulnerable communities and improve resilience.
