The Armour College of Engineering Dean's Distinguished Lecture will be presented by Thomas Wallner, manager of the Advanced Mobility and Grid Integration Technology Research section at Argonne National Laboratory’s Transportation and Power Systems Division, on Friday, October 21, from 12:50–1:40 p.m. in Room 108 in Siegel Hall. 

Abstract

Following a brief introduction of the speaker and the newly formed Transportation and Power Systems Division, this talk reviews highlights of Argonne’s ongoing experimental work characterizing the energy impacts of advanced driver assistance/automated driving systems (ADAS/ADS) and discuss vehicle-grid integration activities at the lab’s Smart Energy Plaza. Featured projects employ novel experimental capabilities including Argonne’s dyno XiL setup, mobile data acquisition system, and enabling grid integration technologies developed at Argonne’s EV-Smart Grid Interoperability Center.

Biography

Thomas Wallner is the manager of the Advanced Mobility and Grid Integration Technology Research section at Argonne National Laboratory’s Transportation and Power Systems Division. His team focuses on the experimental evaluation and analysis of advanced vehicle technologies including conventional, electrified, and connected and automated vehicles, as well as electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Wallner has published more than 100 peer-reviewed technical papers including 30 journal papers and several book chapters. He is an active fellow grade member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and has been serving as a session organizer and chair at several national and international conferences.
