Abstract

As we enter the era of intelligent applications and services—including the smart city, smart energy, smart transportation, and smart health, among others—contributing to the advances and research in these digital transformation initiatives has become a major thrust in engineering. The foundation for digital transformation is based on key enablers, including the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), ubiquitous wireless access, metadata analytics, and advanced cybersecurity. This seminar will summarize the challenges, advances, and research areas associated with this key multidisciplinary technology field. The digital transformation architecture will be introduced, and the challenges in the intersection of wireless access, machine learning, and distributed datasphere will be covered. Application of selected techniques, e.g., routing protocols with low latency, Lagrangian dual decomposition approach model for handling mobility, and Federated learning-based approach for intelligent resource and policy management, will be highlighted.
