The Electrical and Computer Engineering department will be hosting a seminar featuring Ryan Gabrys, Ph.D., Spawar Systems Center. The topic of the seminar will be Coding for DNA-based Storage.

Abstract

DNA-based storage is a promising new non-volatile memory technology of unprecedented information capacity. The write (synthesis) and read (sequencing) mechanisms of DNA-based storage devices are conceptually simple and they allow for abstracting useful channel models. We propose new coding methods for such channels, based on the particular synthesis and sequencing technology used.

Speaker Bio

Ryan Gabrys received his PhD in electrical engineering from the UCLA in 2014. He currently works for Spawar Systems Center developing future Naval capabilities. His research interests are coding for emerging memory devices and synchronization channels.
