The Office of Campus Life will be hosting a film screening of The Book Thief and a discussion in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 6–8:30 p.m. in the Pritzker Club in The McCormick Tribune Campus Center.

The Book Thief follows a young girl living with her adoptive German family during the Nazi era. Taught to read by her kind-hearted foster father, the girl begins "borrowing" books and sharing them with the Jewish refugee being sheltered by her foster parents in their home.

The event will include a short presentation from University Archivist Mindy Pugh about the Voices of the Holocaust project, which saw David P. Boder, a psychology professor at Illinois Tech, travel to Europe in 1946 to record the stories of Holocaust survivors in their own words.

Following the screening of the movie, a short discussion about the movie and a candle vigil will take place.
