Hilb's Day: A Celebration of Light for the Winter Solstice

Hilb’s Day is a longstanding Illinois Institute of Technology tradition—to celebrate the shortest day of the year—when Hilberseimer’s students planned that buildings would be filled with light. This year the university will celebrate virtually!

Hilberseimer (1885–1967) was a German architect and urban planner best known for his ties to the Bauhaus and to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, as well as for his work in urban planning at Armour Institute of Technology (now Illinois Tech).

David Taylor, a violinist and assistant concertmaster with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will perform solo pieces from Bach and Paganini, and we are also excited to share a virtual exhibit of some of Hilberseimer’s drawings, courtesy of the Art Institute of Chicago.
