Armour College of Engineering's Mechanical, Materials & Aerospace Engineering Department will welcome Dr. David Williams, Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at IIT, to present his lecture, Active Flow Control and the ICE/SACCON Aircraft.

Abstract

The presentation will begin with an overview of the history of active flow control, and its application to enhancing aircraft performance. In the second half, a description of an Air Force/NATO effort to extend active flow control to flight control applications will be described. In the third half of the presentation, the progress with a flight test program between IIT and the US Air Force with a 1:7 scale model of the ICE/SACCON aircraft will be discussed.
