Chapter 18 describes ceramics, glasses and superconductors, including their processing and equipment.

Biography

Dr. Gentleman received her BS in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology and PhD in Materials at the University of California, Santa Barbara studying high temperature phosphors for sensors in turbine environments. After her PhD she joined the Coatings and Surface Technologies Lab and Nanotechnology Advanced Technology Group at GE Global Research in Niskayuna, NY where her work has resulted in 16 currently issued patents on wetting resistant ceramics. She was a member of the Mechanical Engineering faculty at Texas A&M University for three years before joining the Materials Science department at Stony Brook University in 2012. She currently has 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals in research areas including thermal barrier coatings, wettability, and bioadhesion.
