Join the Department of Social Sciences for this Great Problems, Great Minds seminar series event featuring guest speaker Joe Schwieterman, director of the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development at DePaul University.

This presentation will explore the vexing issues facing Chicago in its role as the country’s premier hub for intercity passenger transportation.  We’ll review the challenges the city faces at its two major airports, rail-passenger terminals, and intercity bus facilities.  We’ll look at the probable changes in long-distance travel after the pandemic, ambitious projects on the horizon, and technological changes that are rendering parts of our system obsolete.  The presentation will also review major initiatives underway at O’Hare International Airport, Chicago Union Station and other notable travel gateways.
