Description

For more than half a century it was assumed that the reaction of a solid explosive decomposition could be described by a simple Arrhenius kinetic law. Our research group of Solid State Reaction Kinetics of Kemerovo State University found out that the explosion of silver and lead azides stimulated by laser pulses does not follow the conventional thermal mechanism so a chain reaction model was suggested. The forthcoming talk will cover the next main points:

  • Solid state chain reaction essential stages;
  • The mechanisms of chain branching and termination;
  • Comparison with gas phase chain reactions;
  • Rate constants evaluation;
  • Experimental approaches of the research into reaction kinetics;
  • Effects that were described and predicted in terms of the chain mechanism;
  • The mechanism of chain reaction wave propagation;
  • Limits of the thermal and chain mechanisms of explosion.
