Former Chicago Fire Coach Denis Hamlett Named IIT Men’s Soccer Coach

Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) is pleased to announce that Denis Hamlett, a Chicago resident, was recently named the university’s interim head men's soccer coach.

An experienced soccer player and coach, Hamlett served as an assistant coach of the Chicago Fire for more than 10 years, before taking the role of head coach for the team in 2008. During both of his years as head coach, he led the Chicago Fire to the Eastern Cup Final. In addition to his coaching experience, Hamlett will be able to provide support and guidance to the young men currently on the team.

"I am excited to welcome Denis to the IIT family and have him lead our men's soccer team,” said IIT Athletic Director Enzley Mitchell IV. “Our program is extremely fortunate to have someone with Denis' experience and background joining us. This experience will be very valuable as we try to compete to be one of the premier teams in the conference.”

Hamlett graduated from George Mason University in 1991 and was inducted into the university’s Hall of Fame in 2006.

“I am thrilled to be named head coach at Illinois Institute of Technology, a school with an exceptional academic tradition,” said Hamlett. “I look forward to coaching and guiding the student-athletes of IIT, as well as helping the soccer program attain new heights.”
