Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) is pleased to announce the Academy for Future Leaders in Science and Technology Scholarship, which awards area high school students who participate in the summer program hosted by IIT Stuart School of Business’ Center for Strategic Competitiveness with a renewable $15,000 undergraduate scholarship to the university.

The tuition scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years (or 5 years if the student attends the College of Architecture) and is valued at $60,000. In addition, recipients are eligible for a scholarship of $15,000 to support two years of graduate study within one of IIT’s co-terminal professional master’s degree programs. Scholarship award and continuation is conditional upon successful completion of the Academy for Future Leaders in Science and Technology, admission to Illinois Institute of Technology, maintaining satisfactory academic progress, and remaining a full-time student at IIT.

During the summer of 2008, IIT received a $500,000, three-year grant from the Toyota U.S.A. Foundation to support the academy, which invites talented, but often underserved high school students, aged 16-18, from the Chicago metropolitan area, to attend a summer-long science and technology education and internship experience, focused on environmental science and management, at the IIT campus. Recently completing its first year in summer 2009, the academy works to enhance the potential of students to learn about science and technology and help them advance through high school and into post-secondary education. In addition to building their science skills, the academy prepares students to become environmental stewards and leaders involved in making important decisions that will help protect the environment for future generations.

The Toyota USA Foundation is a $100 million charitable endowment created to support education programs serving kindergarten through 12th-grade students and their teachers in the United States, with an emphasis on mathematics, science and environmental science.
