New buildings that taper, tilt and twist hold the potential to reshape skylines and provide designers with an unprecedented ability to manipulate light and space—both inside and outside their buildings. These new structures challenge designers, builders and developers. Technological obstacles must be overcome, the safety of occupants must be ensured and the risk of cost and schedule overrun must be minimized. This conference explores the challenges that face designers of irregularly shaped structures and attempts to understand the promise they hold for the future of tall buildings.
