IIT Stuart School of Business has ranked among the world's best programs in the first official global ranking of pre-experience master's programs in finance, published today byFinancial Times. IIT Stuart's Master of Science in Finance degree program is ranked 20th globally, 3rd in the United States, and Stuart finance graduates ranked 5th for "career status" three years after graduation.

The Financial Times Global Masters in Finance 2011 rankings are based on surveys of alumni who graduated three years previously, as well as data from the ranked schools.

"The new rankings reflect the IIT Stuart finance program's place among global institutions and acknowledges our prominence among US programs," said IIT Stuart Dean Harvey Kahalas. "As the only ranked program in the Midwest, I am proud to see public recognition of our program's success here in Chicago, home of the world’s largest markets in financial derivatives. As our fifth-place career success ranking reflects, our finance graduates are able hit the ground running and see remarkable success shortly after entering the job market."

IIT Stuart's Master of Science Finance degree program occupies a sweet spot between the case study methodology of managerial finance and the theorem/proof formalism of mathematical finance. The program is based upon a solid foundation in financial mathematics, statistics, and modeling. Core courses cover basic principles of valuation, portfolio management, and financial statement analysis. The program then offers a wide range of elective concentrations that are specifically related to careers in the financial services industry.
