A new survey from the Design Futures Council, published in Design Intelligence, ranks the undergraduate program of the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) as the 13th best program in the nation and 3rd in the Midwest.

The eighth annual America’s Best Architecture Schools study was conducted in mid-2006 with architecture firm leaders, "who, during the past five years, have had direct experience in the hiring and performance of recent architecture graduates." The sample represents a cross section of the United States geographically as well as from different market sectors.

"It is gratifying for us to be highly ranked by practitioners, which validates our emphases on educational values that prepare graduates for the best architectural practices," said Donna V. Robertson, dean of IIT’s College of Architecture.

The College of Architecture's program emphasizes investigations in architectural design and technology, through rigorous, critical thought. The IIT program additionally draws strength from its heritage, set forth by the college's director from 1938-1958, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, its key position in the legacy of Modernism, its location in Chicago, and its connection to progressive practitioners and emerging global architectural practices.

Founded in 1890, IIT is a Ph.D.-granting university with more than 6,700 students in engineering, sciences, architecture, psychology, design, humanities, business and law. IIT's interprofessional, technology-focused curriculum is designed to advance knowledge through research and scholarship, to cultivate invention improving the human condition, and to prepare students from throughout the world for a life of professional achievement, service to society, and individual fulfillment.
