Joseph Buri named Energy and Sustainability Director for IIT

Joseph Buri, associate vice president, Facilities, Rental Properties & Construction, at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) has been appointed Energy and Sustainability Director for the university, announced John Collins, vice president of Business and Administration of IIT.

In this role, Buri leads the IIT campus energy and sustainability program in coordination with the Advisory Group on IIT Main Campus Sustainability as part of the newly-established Wanger Institute for Energy Sustainability Research (WISER). The Advisory Group was established by Professor Hamid Arastoopour, Dean of Armour College, and is led by Said Al-Hallaj, research associate professor of chemical engineering. The group will work closely with Buri to identify potential collaboration initiatives on research and development project including faculty and students from the various IIT academic programs.

Recent campus energy and sustainability initiatives will increase the efficiency and reliability of energy systems, increase conservation, and provide sustainability for the entire IIT campus and include a decentralized hot water system, infrastructure upgrades, and an expanded recycling program.
