Faculty Statement on Diversity

Passed UFC March 11, 2016
Passed Faculty (without opposition in modified form) April 21, 2016

Whereas, University President Alan Cramb in his November 20th, 2015 University Update reaffirmed that

at this university we strive to have a diverse culture of unity, inclusivity, equity, and respect. My expectation is that everyone in our community should treat one another with respect and dignity regardless of gender, race, background, country of origin, religious affiliation, immigration status, orientation, or any other such descriptor….

Furthermore, the IIT faculty observe that

A culture is strengthened by its diversity when it is not merely ignored or 'tolerated' but acknowledged in open, respectful discourse and cooperation.

Therefore, be it resolved that

The IIT faculty is committed to welcoming students, faculty and staff, whomever they may be, whatever their identity is, to come and live, study and work together in our community. The faculty is unwavering in this commitment.
