Inspiring the Next Generation of Cyber Defenders!
Illinois Tech’s GenCyber Elevate+ program aims to spark and sustain cybersecurity awareness among Chicago Public School (CPS) students and to increase student diversity in college cybersecurity and career readiness pathways.
CPS students who are rising 10th through 12th graders are eligible to participate in this program, which is a summer 2025 residential camp that will take place July 21–25, 2025. The camp experience is free of cost for participants.

Why is the program free for students?
GenCyber is an important component of the United States national cybersecurity education ecosystem. The program is jointly funded by the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation.
When will Illinois Tech’s program take place?
The GenCyber Elevate+ camp will be held July 21–25, 2025, at Illinois Tech’s Mies Campus. In addition, several in-person and virtual pre- and post-camp activities in spring 2025 and fall 2025 are planned.
Do I need to know about technology and cybersecurity already to apply?
No knowledge is required! We only ask that you bring your curiosity and willingness to learn to the program! The program curriculum is designed to introduce cybersecurity concepts to a beginner.
What will I learn during the program?
The goals of the program’s curriculum are to help students from diverse backgrounds understand cybersecurity concepts, ethics, and explore cybersecurity careers.
Students will enjoy hands-on activities and interactive discussions about the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital world (e.g., safe online behaviors, how to think like the “bad” actor, and explore concepts such as Keep it Simple and Defense in Depth).
