Workshop Objectives

Learn to create your own video game by planning its development to include graphics, audio, and music. During this workshop, you'll: 

  • Learn to develop a game concept, create a prototype, test its functionality, and iterate on your ideas
  • Expand on your development environment by adding multiplayer and enhanced gameplay features
  • Bring your game ideas to life by learning JavaScript, develop video games for your computer and web browsers with our hands-on projects, and eventually create your own video game

Eligibility and Prerequisites

This IT course is open to any high school sophomore, junior, or senior worldwide (ages 14-17), as well as those technically advanced incoming freshmen who receive Illinois Tech staff approval. No prerequisite knowledge is required; however, it is recommended that students have some technical knowledge. Students practice hands-on basic techniques and continue into advanced techniques while building small project-based websites and web applications.

Upon registration, students must submit the following in order to confirm enrollment in the program:

  • Program fee
  • Parental consent form, which will be sent by email via DocuSign

 

Instructor

James Papademas is an industry professor of information technology and management at Illinois Tech. He has taught the Game Development and Programming course for several years.

Based on local and national guidelines around COVID-19, we have determined that this program should be run online in Summer 2021. The total cost of the program will be reduced, and your deposit will be applied toward the new program cost. Deposits are fully refundable until May 15.
