A team from Illinois Tech led by Sanjiv Kapoor, professor of computer science, was one of 18 university teams that competed in the 2015 AT&T SDN Network Design Challenge, and one of a handful to submit a complete solution. Teams were asked to design a cost-effective and efficient network that would have the capacity to route voluminous network traffic with applications to SDN networks. Techniques from network optimization and algorithm design theory were used to design and implement an algorithm for the problem. It was a useful opportunity to apply theory to a real-world problem, and a real-world network.
