Illinois Tech is proud to award scholarships to students who demonstrate a commitment to community-building, leadership development, and growth in the esports community. Recipients of an esports scholarship are eligible for a merit scholarship award of $5,000 per year for up to four years (five years for architecture).
How to Apply for the Illinois Tech Esports Scholarship
Open only to incoming first-year students who are United States citizens or permanent residents, the scholarship has been awarded to candidates who demonstrate the following strengths:
- Commitment to building a positive community
- Exhibition of leadership skills
- Demonstrated experience in competitive esports, including games such as League of Legends, Overwatch, and Hearthstone—view a full list of games that Illinois Tech Esports is associated with
- Interest in the development and growth of the Illinois Tech Esports community
Illinois Tech Esports Scholarship candidates must apply to Illinois Tech and must submit the following to the Office of Undergraduate Admission no later than January 1:
1. Apply for admission through the Common Application
2. Upload the following materials to our scholarship submission form:
- Supplemental Esports scholarship application
- One page essay describing your involvement in Esports
3. Complete and submit the Illinois Tech Esports Recruitment Form(s) associated with the games you are interested in playing. You are invited to submit a form for multiple games:
Your application materials will be reviewed by the Office of Undergraduate Admission and your recruiting information will be reviewed by members of the Illinois Tech Esports leadership team. After a review of all applications, finalists will be invited to the next step in the scholarship selection process in January.
Esports Scholarship Selection Process
- Finalists for the scholarship will be invited to connect with the Illinois Tech Esports (ITE) student organizations on the ITE Discord App
- Finalists will participate in a virtual or in-person meet and greet with members of the ITE leadership team in January
- Finalists will demonstrate gameplay skills in a series of gaming sessions with members of ITE in February
- Scholarship recipients will be notified in March
PLEASE NOTE: The Illinois Tech Esports Scholarship cannot be combined with full-tuition institutional scholarships such as Duchossois, Camras, Leadership Academy, Collens, and more. If a student earns a full-tuition Illinois Tech institutional scholarship during the admission process, the university will award the highest institutional award for which the student is qualified but will not combine multiple awards.
