Jesika Pabello

Braven taught me that my identity is not a liability to be managed, but a cornerstone of my professional brand. It turned what felt like an out-of-reach path into a clear, attainable journey.

My Braven leadership coach reminded me that patience and consistency matter. When I was overwhelmed about my future, she shared her own story and helped me see I wasn’t alone, and that perspective gave me the confidence to land my first role in HR.

How the Career Accelerator with Braven Works

Braven Career Success is divided into three sections. Throughout the course, fellows are grouped into small cohorts with other Illinois Tech students from various majors, allowing them to connect across disciplines and develop teamwork skills that mirror the real world.

A linear, multi-stage career development program timeline composed of three colored chevrons pointing from left to right.

Design Your Career: While bonding with a cohort of fellows by sharing core value stories, students will explore leadership, values, and career interests, which will help them create a career project plan.

Launch Your Career: Students build or refine their resumes, develop their interview skills through mock interviews and informational interviews with professionals, and learn to communicate their stories and strengths clearly and concisely. They receive extensive feedback on their cover letters and mock interviews, and practice their skills at networking events.

Capstone Challenge: Each semester, Braven partners with a local employer for the Capstone Challenge, a five-week project where fellows use design thinking to solve a real-world problem proposed by the employer. Fellows present their solutions and develop teamwork, leadership, project planning, and public speaking skills.

Post-Course Support

Description: After completing the Braven Career Success course, fellows gain continued access to leadership and career development opportunities, networking events, and a national community of peers and professionals. Fellows receive access to MyBraven—Braven's all-in-one digital platform where fellows can connect with staff, access resources, and stay engaged with career development tools—as well as employer events, career coaching, and ongoing communication about internships and jobs. Fellows may also opt into an optional 12-week 1:1 Professional Mentoring Program.
