Research Interests

Heat and mass transfer phenomena occurring in materials processing. Directional solidification/single crystal growth focusing on semiconductor alloys. Wide band gap materials for gamma ray detectors (semiconductors and scintillators). Diffusion. Growth of carbon nanotubes. The most recent research projects include:

  • Growth of single crystals:
    – wide band gap semiconductors for gamma ray detectors
    – photo-voltaic and thermo-photovoltaic semiconductors (e.g., GaInSb),
    – piezoelectric alloys (e.g. PMNx-PT1-x).
  • Growth of carbon single walled nanotubes (SWNTs) using the electric arc process.
  • Effects of magnetic fields on the physiology of living organisms at the molecular cellular, tissue, and whole body level.
  • Fourier Transform Infrared Analysis (FTIR) at high temperature (up to 1500 C).

Current projects:

1. CASIS-NASA 2015-2017

2. NASA SUBSA 2 (2017-2020) InI , CLYC

Recent Projects:

1. DoE/NNSA

2. DHS at IIT

3. NASA-SUBSA 1 (2002)
