The speaker is interested in quantifying the kinetics of microstructures, e.g., micron-sized particles, viruses, in linear viscoelastic (LVE) flow, e.g., suspension, mucus, collagen. Since he is not really interested in the dynamics of the bulk fluid, a boundary integral method (BIM) seems an ideal tool for this task. A naive extension of the BIM designed for Stokes flow to LVE is, however, 'non-local' in time, which eventually causes non-locality in space. As such, the resulting BIM really becomes a regular integral method, involving volume integrals. Ideally, one would like to retain the flavor of a real BIM for LVE flow. The speaker will discuss some potentially viable approaches.
