The Electrical and Computer Engineering department will be hosting a seminar featuring Fei Shang, Ph.D., Sr. Power Electronics Engineer at Hatco Corporation, Milwaukee, WI. The topic of the seminar will be Challenges and Opportunities in Power Electronics: From Appliances to Electric Vehicles.

Abstract

Power electronics is a bridge. It has very quickly become very essential to connect modern technologies with the traditional industries. Today, power electronics applications have emerged everywhere and significantly change the daily life of human being. Induction heating system brings a faster and safer way for cooking. It allows the chefs to have a more accurate control of the temperature, which will greatly change the cooking techniques. At the same time, vehicle electrification has brought some of the most significant changes to the traditional automotive market, which also cannot be realized without power electronics. In this talk, we will discuss industry experiences, explore job opportunities in this area and understand the role power electronics plays.

Speaker’s Biography
