CAEE Alumnus Dr. Burcin Kaplanoglu Named ENR's Top 20 Under 40

Lendlease, one of the world’s largest international property and infrastructure providers, is pleased to announce that Dr. Burcin Kaplanoglu, (Ph.D. '07), has been named one of ENR Midwest’s Top 20 under 40.

Each year, ENR Midwest recognizes 20 contributors under 40 years of age from throughout the Midwest for contributions made to the Real Estate, Construction, and Engineering community. Award recipients are recognized for their job responsibilities, project work, certifications, professional licensures and/or accreditations, community service, excellence and leadership qualities, and career experiences.

Currently Dr. Kaplanoglu serves as Vice President and Operations Director of Lendlease’s Telecommunication Strategic Business Unit and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the business. Prior to his current role with Lendlease, he served as Operations Manager for Lendlease’s Multi-Site Strategic Business Unit, where he was responsible for overseeing operations for the company’s 7- Eleven Program Management and Construction Management team.

Prior to his role as Operations Manager, Dr. Kaplanoglu reported to the COO of Lendlease’s America’s Region where he led the implementation of new process and systems which improved company efficiency by identifying and proactively managing operational risks. He also worked as a Project Manager and was heavily involved in the preconstruction and construction stages of buildings across the Chicagoland area.

In addition to this professional work, Dr. Kaplanoglu has served as an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University since 2008. At the McCormick School of Engineering’s Masters in Project Management (MPM) Program, he has taught "e-Business in Construction" and "Principles of Project Management" classes. Dr. Kaplanoglu has also served as three time co-chair of Northwestern University’s Technology for Design and Construction Conference, a biennial conference that brings leaders from construction and related industries. As an industry thought leader, he speaks at industry events such as National Institute of Building Science’s Building Innovation Conference and Expo in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Kaplanoglu is involved with community-based organizations related to construction and beyond. He actively supports the Jackson Chance Foundation (JCF) as a board member through volunteer fund raising, financial support and event organization. JCF helps families spend time with their critically ill baby while in neonatal intensive care.
