College of Science Now Accepting Undergraduate Summer Research Stipend Nominations

Date

The College of Science is now accepting nominations for Undergraduate Summer Research Stipends for summer 2018. This program allows undergraduates to do paid research with College of Science faculty over the summer. The value of the stipends is $5,000 each. Faculty may nominate students from any major with preference given to College of Science, humanities, and social science students. Nomination forms and supporting materials must be submitted on the Google forms application site by Friday, March 23.

Recipients of the award must be full-time students in good standing, typically in their sophomore or junior year, with a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They must not have any other similar scholarships. Students may be currently engaged in the research or wish to start a new project.

The College of Science believes that engaging undergraduates in research will enrich their experience at Illinois Tech by allowing them to explore their interests, solve problems, advance their knowledge, and prepare for the next step—whether graduate school, medical school, or the workplace. Robert Ellis, associate dean of the College of Science, said, “Summer research helps undergraduates to discover a purpose for their disciplinary knowledge and capabilities, and to better envision a fulfilling professional or academic career.”
