3:40p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013
Engineering 1 Building Auditorium

Mr. Prendergast is a fire safety and protection engineer affiliated with the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. His seminar focuses on fire safety considerations in building design as Mr. Prendergast discusses the importance of fire safety issues as pertains to building design professionals including engineers and architects.

The importance of such design considerations is emphasized; and the safety implications of proper fire safety rules in mitigating the potential fire damage and risk of fatalities are presented. Every year more than 3,000 people lose their lives to fire and some 18,000 more are injured. Among fire fighters, the number of injuries exceeds 81,000 per year. Proper design considerations and awareness on part of engineers and architects are effective in reducing the number of fatalities and injuries. Design considerations to be implemented include proper egress routes, communication systems, smoke-control panels, etc. These issues are presented in this seminar.

This event is free and open to the IIT community. Refreshments will be served.
