New Chair Named for Department of Food Science and Nutrition

The Department of Food Science and Nutrition at Illinois Institute of Technology has a new leader.

Britt Burton-Freeman, an associate professor in food science and nutrition in Illinois Tech’s School of Applied Technology, was named by Provost Peter Kilpatrick on Wednesday, May 8, as the department’s new chair.

The director of the Center for Nutrition and Research at the Institute for Food Safety and Health at Illinois Tech, Burton-Freeman has twice been lauded for her work during her time at the university. In 2014, she received the Excellence in Teaching Award for SAT/IFSH, and was presented with the 2008 Excellence in Research and High Performance–Directors Award from the National Center for Food Safety and Technology. She has also been editor-in-chief of Nutrition and Aging since 2012.
