Announcing the Exploration Space at Galvin Library!

The Exploration Space at Galvin Library is officially open and has been operational for a few weeks now. The space is located on the lower level, past the elevator in the group study area, and is available to the IIT community. Currently two 3D printers are ready for users to place requests, and you can read more about the request process, printing costs, and other details in the 3D Printing Guide. The printers are not limited to coursework and they are available on a first-come, first-served basis Monday-Saturday. In the spring, the library hopes to offer design help and consultations. Also located in the space are a badge/button machine and a label maker. More details about these two items is available on the Exploration Space guide.

Research Appointments at Galvin Library!

Procrastination can be a problem, but many times not starting an assignment can be based on not knowing where to start, how to proceed, or even if what you are doing is on the right path. Searching Google is not the answer, nor is asking your friends, so why not meet with an expert researcher in the library? If you’re stuck at any point on the path to completion – choosing a topic, gathering research, creating a cited works list -  schedule a research appointment with a librarian to receive specialized help with your research. Librarians are here to help you with any level and any type of research you need to do. Appointments can last from 15 minutes to one hour. Email RHO@iit.edu to make an appointment.

Laptop Service at Galvin Library Moves Beyond the Building!

Galvin Library, in cooperation with the Office of Technology Services (OTS), has laptops available for Illinois Tech students to borrow that can be used outside of the library. All of the laptops have the needed course software, and borrowing time is four hours, with a one-time renewal option of an additional four hours. Having laptops to use outside of the library can be helpful for IPRO or other group work, or as a backup if personal laptops are out of service and an assignment is due. Note this service is not available during hours that the library is closed (Friday and Saturday nights). Students need their IIT ID to check out a laptop, and there is limited availability on a first-come, first-served basis. For help with personal electronic devices or the laptops, visit the OTS Support Desk on Galvin Library’s upper level, email them at supportdesk@iit.edu or call 312. 567.3375.

Galvin Library Partners with Writing Center to Offer Assistance

Galvin Library is partnering with IIT’s Writing Center to offer writing assistance when the Writing Center is closed in the evening or on weekends. Galvin Library’s Research Help Office is staffed with peer Research Specialists who can assist in identifying the next steps to take in the writing process or suggest library resources that can help. Students needing assistance with their writer’s block can just drop by and visit with Research Specialists on the upper level at Galvin Library. Call 567-3616 or email RHO@iit.edu for assistance.
