Ron Landis appointed as Deputy Vice Provost for Research and Academic Affairs

Illinois Institute of Technology has named Ronald S. Landis as deputy vice provost for research and academic affairs. Landis will join Christopher White, vice provost for research and academic affairs, and Jamshid Mohammadi, associate dean of the Graduate College, in working to advance the goals of increasing the scholarly productivity of Illinois Tech faculty members and seeking to enhance the collaborative research efforts of Illinois Tech faculty and students.

Landis is the Nambury S. Raju Professor of Psychology and joined the university in 2011. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses related to quantitative research methods such as multivariate statistics, structural equation modeling, meta-analysis, and survey design and analysis. From 2013–16, Landis served as chair of the psychology department, and he currently serves as one of the university’s faculty athletic representatives.

Landis has a peer-reviewed publication and conference presentation record that includes topics related to industrial and organizational psychology and the appropriate application of particular quantitative methods. He recently completed work as PI on a $1.3 million National Science Foundation grant focused on how computer-based tutoring systems influence student learning of complex scientific material. In addition to the preceding areas of interest, for the past several years he focused his energy toward improving the practice of scientific research and communication. He has used his editorial positions to advance initiatives aimed at improving the quality and rigor of scientific publications, has presented at national and international conferences, and is an invited member on an international panel of experts in his field with the aim of improving rigor and relevance of organizational research.

Landis received a Ph.D. in psychology (1995) and a M.S. in psychology (1992) from Michigan State University.
