STUDENTS, ALUMNI, AND EMPLOYERS REAP BENEFITS OF IIT SUPPLY CHAIN AND MANUFACTURING JOB FAIR

Date

Ask any one of the 100+ students and alumni who attended the IIT Supply Chain and Manufacturing Job Fair, and they will likely say that there were plenty of opportunities for jobs as well as professional networking among the 10 companies represented. Current Master of Industrial Operations and Management (MITO) student, Shruthi Suresh, commented that she and her friends were very impressed by the amount of time and attention that the companies gave to each of them. In her words, “the recruiters not only looked at academic success, but also looked for professional accomplishments and personal talent in every student related to specific jobs. Every company representative addressed the students warmly and offered many opportunities for interviews.”

The Supply Chain and Manufacturing Fair was a partnership between IIT Career Services and Industrial Technology and Management (INTM). The Fair had two goals; to help companies recruit candidates for jobs requiring specific types of technical and managerial training, and give students and alumni the opportunity to meet prospective employers offering jobs related to their academic pursuits. Students and Alumni were primarily from IIT programs in Industrial Technology and Management, Operations, Supply Chain, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.

The Fair’s sponsor, Chicago Metal Rolled Products, is the manufacturer of the steel tubing that encases the “El” tracks at IIT’s McCormick Tribune Student Center. INTM Alum Ken Pecho (MITO ’11) now works for Chicago Metal Rolled Products. He was there to talk with students about career opportunities with his company. Another INTM Alum, Tony Clark (BINTM ‘12) came to represent Graybar, a distributor of electrical supplies, communications, data network solutions, commercial and industrial lighting, and security equipment. The other companies that attended were Ajilon Professional Staffing, C. H. Robinson, Crown Services, DSC Logistics, Dudek and Bock Spring Manufacturing Co., Greenlee Textron, TAZ, and Whiting Corporation.
