Three Female Students Awarded Scholarships in Water Industry

Having access to clean water is one of the most important problems facing the world today. Three female engineering students have recently been awarded scholarships to help solve this problem by preparing them for a career in the water industry. Laura Haak, Sara Glade and Anne Crotteau were all awarded water industry scholarships this Spring.

Laura Haak (EnvE, Ph.D. Candidate) was awarded the 2015 Clean Water Scholarship from the Illinois Water Environment Association (IWEA). The award is intended to aid students studying civil or environmental engineering, environmental science, or wastewater systems operation prepare for careers working with the water environment. Haak received a $1000 check and a plaque at the IWEA Annual Conference Banquet on February 23, 2015 in Champaign, IL.

Sara Glade (ChE, 5th year) was awarded the Illinois Section American Water Works Association (ISAWWA) Safe Water Scholarship. ISAWWA awards scholarships each year to fulfill it’s mission to educate the general public on the essential functions and importance of the water industry, the water cycle and water treatment, and the career paths in the water industry. She was awarded the scholarship at WATERCON2015 the ISAWWA Conference that was held in Springfield, IL from March 23-26.

Anne Crotteau (CE, 4th year) was awarded the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Illinois Section Environmental and Water Resources Institute Scholarship. The ASCE Illinois Section awards technical group scholarships to students attending Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Illinois Chicago and Northwestern University who are pursuing environmental engineering or water resources engineering as an area of specialization. Crotteau was awarded the scholarship at the President Elect and Scholarship Dinner on April 22 in Chicago, IL.
