General Checklist to Complete for Faculty Who Resign

  • As soon as you know that you will be resigning, notify your academic unit head in writing and include your last day of employment at Illinois Tech (i.e. the last day you will work)
  • If you are a PI or co-PI on a grant, notify the Office of Research
  • Once notified of your resignation, Human Resources will reach out to you to review benefits-related matters and to schedule an exit meeting. Please review the Resignation and Exit Process page on the Human Resources website for more information

General Checklist for the Supervisor of Resigning Faculty

  • As soon as you are notified by a faculty member who is resigning, request a written notice from the faculty member that includes their last day of employment (i.e. the last day they will work)
  • After receiving written notice from the faculty member, forward a copy of the notice to the Office of the Provost’s at danderson1@iit.edu

Retiring from Illinois Tech

  • As soon as you know that you will be retiring, notify your academic unit head in writing and include your last day at Illinois Tech (i.e. the last day that you will work)
  • If you are a PI or co-PI on a grant, notify the Office of Research
  • Once notified of your retirement, Human Resources will reach out to you to review  benefit-related matters and to schedule an exit meeting. Please review the Resignation and Exit Process page on the Human Resources website
  • If you would like, request to be nominated for emeritus status (optional)

General Checklist for the Supervisor of Retiring Faculty

  • As soon as you are notified by a faculty member that they are retiring, request written notice from the faculty member that includes their last day of employment (i.e. the last day that they will work). After receiving written notice from the faculty member, forward a copy of the notice to the Office of the Provost at danderson1@iit.edu
  • If the faculty member is requesting to be nominated for emeritus status, follow the procedure outlined in the Faculty Handbook, Section IV, 5d

Note (Regarding Last Pay Date): If the faculty member is on a nine-month appointment that is paid out over 12 months, and their last day is before the end of the 12-month payment period, you must specifically indicate if you are requesting an early payout (i.e. before the end of the 12-month payment period). If you do not, the faculty member will continue to be paid monthly through the end of the 12-month pay period, even though their last day was prior to that.
