Mies, Modernized

The newly renovated George J. Kacek Hall reopened to students in 2020, a modern renovation of an original Ludwig Mies van der Rohe design. Dirk Denison (ARCH ’83, M.B.A. ’85), a College of Architecture professor and alumnus, led the design, which incorporates a pod-like configuration, where communal spaces are surrounded by student rooms. The community-centric design, which features unfettered views of the Chicago skyline and Mies Campus, was brought back to life with students in mind.
