Research Interests

Dr. Heidarinejad’s academic concentrations, research, and teaching interests center on building energy and environmental systems and indoor environmental quality. His major research areas include:

  1. Control of building energy and environmental systems
  2. 2. Building energy efficiency and sustainable built environment
  3. Human exposure assessment, health risks, and impacts of air cleaning technologies
  4. Understanding the heat and air flows in the built environment 

Recent Funded Research Projects:

  • 2022–present: Multi-institution consortium to develop building engineering curricula, including fundamental skills in programming and data science and training in the use of modeling technologies such as EnergyPlus and Modelica, The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
  • 2019–present: Air filtration to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) outcomes in a high-risk urban population of U.S. military veterans. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • 2021–present: Filtration for Respiratory Exposure to wildfire Smoke from Swamp Cooler Air (FRESSCA), The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
