Celebrate Black History Month during the month of February with the Office of Campus Life! All events are open to Illinois Tech students, faculty, and staff.

Learn more about some of the Black students who attended Lewis, Armour, and Illinois Tech in the 1910’s-1950’s. Photos and information from yearbooks of that time help tell their stories in the Galvin Library lobby display cases.

Illinois Tech alum (PSYC ‘72) and author Steve Bellinger returns to campus tonight to talk about his time at IIT and his new book. Named the Black Science Fiction Society’s “Book of the Month” in August 2015, The Chronocar  is a compelling “urban adventure in time.”  Books will be available for purchase.

David Oyelowo stars as Martin Luther King Jr. in this historical drama set during the height of the American civil rights movement, depicting the marches from Selma, Ala. to the state capital of Montgomery to secure voting rights for black people.

He has been interviewed on CNN, Fox, BET, and ABC Nightline, and a guest on numerous radio shows as a social critic and education advisor. Join us as Prof. Bailey discusses the themes in his new book, Racial Realities and Post-Racial Dreams: The Age of Obama and Beyond.
