Anita K. Krug Named New Dean of Illinois Tech’s Chicago-Kent College of Law

Illinois Institute of Technology has named Anita K. Krug, D. Wayne and Anne Gittinger Professor of Law at the University of Washington School of Law, as the new dean of Chicago-Kent College of Law.

According to Peter Kilpatrick, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Illinois Tech, Krug stood out among the qualified candidates for the position due to her vision for the future of Chicago-Kent. “We welcome and look forward to her leadership as our newest dean. She was the top choice of the search committee, the faculty, and our leadership team,” says Kilpatrick.

Krug will begin her term as dean on August 1. She will be the first woman to hold the office permanently in the school’s history.

Krug has held a variety of positions at the University of Washington system, including interim dean at the University of Washington School of Law and interim vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Washington Bothell. Krug received her undergraduate degree at Kansas State University before completing M.A., J.D., and Ph.D. degrees at Harvard University, where she held a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship and served on the Harvard Law Review. Her academic research has focused primarily on securities regulation and the regulatory environment surrounding investment advisers, public and private investment funds, and other financial institutions.

Krug’s work has been published in the Columbia Law Review, the Southern California Law Review, the Washington University Law Review, the Iowa Law Review, and the Boston University Law Review, and has been selected for republication in the Securities Law Review and the Corporate Practice Commentator and for presentation at the Harvard/Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum. Prior to her time at the University of Washington, Krug was an equity partner with Howard Rice (now Arnold & Porter) in San Francisco.

“I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to join Illinois Institute of Technology as the new dean of Chicago-Kent College of Law,” says Krug. “I would like to thank Dean Hal Krent for his steadfast leadership in that role, and I look forward to carrying on his vision for excellence as we move forward into the next chapter at Chicago-Kent.”
