Forum on Interdisciplinary Thematic Research—Urban Reinvention

Date

The first Forum on Interdisciplinary Thematic Research was held on Thursday, May 2. The focus of this first forum was urban reinvention; 70 members of the Illinois Tech community participated. This series of forums is sponsored by Provost Peter Kilpatrick and Vice Provost for Research Fred Hickernell.

A panel composed of Pat Corrigan (Psychology), Anita Nikolich (Computer Science), Mohammad Shahidehpour (Electrical and Computer Engineering), and Matt Spenko (Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering) described some of Illinois Tech’s current research on urban reinvention and the interdisciplinary contributions that our university can make. The slides from that panel presentation can be viewed here.

The majority of the time was devoted to a robust discussion involving all who were present. The discussion focused on identifying what areas Illinois Tech can make a substantial impact in and next steps. The participants’ responses are recorded here. The Office of Research and interested faculty will partner in taking this initiative forward.

Additionally, all Illinois Tech faculty are invited to share ideas on the newly created Google group on Urban Reinvention. Click here to visit a website on the symposium.
