IIT Physics Student Jose De Arcos Wins Pengnian Scholarship

Jose De Arcos, a Ph.D. candidate in physics, has been awarded a Pengnian Scholarship to study at Tsinghua University in Beijing this fall. De Arcos, a student of Christopher White, professor of physics and vice provost for academic affairs, focuses on neutrino physics and has worked on the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment in China. At Tsinghua University, he will be in the nuclear science and technology program in the Department of Engineering Physics.

Yu Pengnian is a 90-year-old Chinese hotel and real estate developer who has donated $1.2 billion to philanthropy, including more than $2 million in scholarships for outstanding international students to do research at Chinese universities.
