INTM mourns the passing of Marvin Levine (EE'53)

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Marvin Levine, who passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012. He was a respected and dedicated adjunct professor within IIT’s Industrial Technology and Management (INTM) Program since 1994.

Marvin’s association with IIT spanned over 60 years. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from IIT in 1953 and worked for IIT Armour Research Foundation (the predecessor to IIT Research Institute) from 1953 to 1958. He proceeded into a 30-year career in transportation equipment manufacturing, during which time he conducted R&D, product development, and market research and planning for General American Transportation Corp. (GATX) from 1958 to 1968. Subsequently, he served as President and CEO of Howe Richardson International from 1968 to 1987, which developed the first electronic, in-motion weighing products to serve worldwide markets in food and food processing, mines, minerals and metals, and transportation, shipping and highways. For HRI, he traveled the world to establish positive relations, export operations and product service in 65 countries. Marvin completed his MBA with concentrations in Cultural and Organizational Behavior and International Business, Practices and Marketing at University of Chicago in 1963.

Marvin retired in 1987 to establish his consulting business, The Acorn Group, and dedicate himself to teaching and volunteering. For the INTM program, he developed and taught courses in Industrial Management and Planning, Risk Management, and Strategic International Business and was a tireless advocate for the program and its students. From 1990 to 2006, he taught courses for the Stuart Graduate School of Business, to include International Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Leadership and Change Management, Human Resource Management, Competitive Strategy and International Business. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching and the diversity of students and issues encountered in the classroom.
