MSED Student Wins ACT Institute Award

Mathematics and Science Education (MSED) student teacher Julia Gonzalez (Physics Ed. 4th year) was awarded multiple honors for coaching the ACT prep team at Chicago Public Schools’ (CPS) Juarez High School. The ACT Institute, organized in 2010 by Juarez High School, prepares college juniors for ACT college entrance exams.

Julia’s ongoing work helping high school juniors prepare for the ACT resulted in three awards. She coached the team that earned the highest composite science score as well as the team with the most improved science composite score. Additionally, one of her students earned the highest composite score in science in the Institute’s history.

On May 18, 2013, Gonzales will graduate from IIT’s College of Science and Letters as the first student to earn a degree in physics education. She plans to teach high school physics in the Chicago area
