WISER Co-sponsors Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy

Date

The Wagner Institute for Sustainable Energy Research at IIT will co-sponsor the 2014 Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy (SISE), to be hosted by the University of Illinois at Chicago from August 6–20. The SISE theme, “Urban Energy,” will feature a two-week intensive workshop for graduate and senior-level undergraduate students from a broad range of disciplines.

Before applying, consider that for two weeks you will spend the better part of a 24-hour day working and learning in a very intense environment. Participants attend lectures from 9AM to 5PM everyday and sometimes attend evening activities. Attendees are expected to spend the majority of their free time in the evening working with their collaborative research groups; many work late into the night. Participants need to be willing and ready to “step outside the box” and experience an opportunity for intellectual and experiential growth. If you are accepted into the program, come prepared to work and learn.

Several IIT faculty will serve as instructors for the program. Participants should have an expressed interest in sustainability and energy as evidenced by either educational or practical experience. Applications for the Summer Institute are now being accepted on a rolling basis until Tuesday, July 1.

Faculty are also invited to submit nominations for prospective SISE student participants to Peg Murphy at murphym@iit.edu or Thomas Alaan at sise.2014@gmail.com.
