Commencement Caps

For Faculty

The 2023–2024 Illinois Tech Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Credit Union 1 Arena, located at 525 South Racine Avenue in Chicago.

Illinois Institute of Technology’s annual Commencement ceremony is a time for faculty to celebrate the accomplishments of Illinois Tech students. Faculty not only educate, but also inspire our students—both during our students’ time at the university and throughout their lives.

Commencement Day Instructions


All faculty and staff should report for robing at University of Illinois Chicago’s Credit Union 1 Arena on Saturday, May 11.

Robing for College Ceremony One (Institute of Design, College of Architecture, College of Computing) will begin at 7 a.m. You must be onsite no later than 8 a.m. to ensure an on-time start for the ceremony.

Robing for College Ceremony Two (Armour College of Engineering, Lewis College of Science and Letters, Stuart School of Business) will open at noon. You must be onsite no later than 1 p.m. to ensure an on-time start for the ceremony.

Upon arrival for either ceremony, please enter at Gate 2 off of Harrison Street. You will then be directed to the backstage area to check in. Light refreshments will be provided.

You must pick up your regalia between May 7 and May 10 from your College Ceremony planner. Regalia will not be available onsite.

At the end of each Commencement ceremony on May 11, you must return any rented regalia to the backstage area

Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony

Illinois Tech’s Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 10, at the McCormick Auditorium in Hermann Hall beginning at 3:30 p.m. If you indicated that you will attend this event, you should have already received a separate communication from Jonathan Harmon. Please contact him directly with any questions.

Faculty attending both the Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony and the Commencement ceremony should bring their regalia with them.

Parking and Transportation

Please view parking and transportation information for Credit Union 1 Arena. Faculty will pick up their parking passes from their College Ceremony planner. The parking vouchers will be valid in Lot 1A, Lot 1B, and the parking garage. If needed, the HLPS parking structure (located at the intersection of Taylor and Halsted) will be opened for extra parking. To accommodate, shuttle buses will be available to run on a continuous loop between the HLPS parking structure and the arena. No re-entry will be permitted.
