Koenig is the chairman and CEO of Monroe Capital LLC, a premier boutique asset management firm that specializes in private credit markets across various strategies including direct lending, asset-based lending, specialty finance, opportunistic and structured credit, and equity and provides customized multimillion-dollar financing to corporate, real estate, and asset-based borrowers based in the United States and Canada. He is an experienced leader in structuring, negotiating, and closing transactions on behalf of asset-based lenders, commercial finance companies, financial institutions, and private equity investors.

Monroe Capital manages more than $11 billion of assets under management across the firm’s different institutional closed-end funds, separate managed accounts, private and unlisted Business Development Companies (“BDC”) and Collateralized Loan Obligations (“CLOs”). “As breakthrough technologies change the way we live and work, the value of the technology-based education that Illinois Tech offers will only continue to increase,” says Koenig. “As one of Illinois Tech’s newest board members, I look forward to creating valuable pathways into good jobs and positioning our next generation of business and tech leaders for success as we continue to fuel Chicago’s tech rise”

Most recently, this year Koenig co-founded Hope Chicago, a two-generation scholarship program serving Chicago students and their parents or guardians, covering both tuition and non-tuition expenses. “The mission of Hope Chicago is to create pathways to success for multiple generations of Chicagoans through equitable access to higher education.”

“Illinois Tech already provides the best return on investment for students in the state and among the very best in the nation,” says Raj Echambadi, president of Illinois Tech. “With Ted’s experience as a successful businessman, Illinois Tech will empower our students and fuel their careers while working to reimagine education for all. I look forward to partnering with Ted to ensure our university continues to meet its unique mission.”

Koenig, an alumnus of Chicago-Kent College of Law, spent the earlier part of his career as a practicing attorney at Holleb & Coff from 1986 to 1999. As co-chair of the firm’s Corporate Law, Mergers, and Acquisitions and Business Finance groups, he supervised and was responsible for structuring, negotiating, and documenting the acquisitions and sales of middle market companies, as well as representing the firm’s bank, financial institution, and commercial finance clients in asset-based financing transactions for buyout, recapitalization, and restructuring transactions.

“It is a great honor to elect one of our prominent alumni to the board,” says Michael P. Galvin (LAW ‘78), chairman of Illinois Tech Board of Trustees. “Illinois Tech is well positioned to further discover, create, and deliver the knowledge and competencies necessary to thrive in—and impact—the future. I am excited to welcome Ted back to his alma mater as one of our newest board members.”

Prior to joining Holleb & Coff, Koenig was an associate in the Mergers/Acquisitions practice group at international law firm Winston & Strawn LLP. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.

“Ted’s success as an entrepreneur and close connection to the Chicago-Kent alumni network makes him a great role model within the Illinois Tech community,” says Ernie Iseminger, vice president of advancement at Illinois Tech. “I have no doubt that Ted’s election to the board will continue to drive enhanced growth critical to meeting the needs of our students.”
