Humanities undergraduate awarded summer research project

Date

Humanities undergraduate Jean Sebastien Seck received a stipend to complete a 10-week research project this summer, supported by IIT’s College of Science. He will be working alongside Dr. Carly Kocurek, Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities and Media Studies, to look at Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games from a historical perspective, specifically how they’ve assisted genre and business development. He will also assist Dr. Kocurek in a publishing project.

“This kind of sustained research opportunity will enable Sebastien to deeply investigate a topic he is interested in while cultivating his research and writing skills,” Dr. Kocurek says.

Sebastien is interested in working in the industry, and the in-depth knowledge he’ll gain over the 10 weeks will be professionally beneficial as well, he says.

“I’ll be able to learn the terminology they use to communicate, and what processes are used to create the things I love,” Sebastien says. “I’m really excited because this is my first time doing large-scale research.”

Lewis College will check back with Sebastien at the end of the summer to see what he learned. Congratulations!
