** Illinois Tech is waiving the GRE for students who plan to study in master’s and master’s of science programs for the spring and fall 2023 semesters. The GRE is still required for all prospective Ph.D. students. **
Test Score Accommodations During the Novel Coronavirus Outbreak
Due to the impacts of the coronavirus on testing centers in China and elsewhere, we are making the following accommodations available to all students for the spring and fall 2023 admission cycle for all master’s programs:
• IELTS and TOEFL Alternate Option: If you are unable to take the IELTS or TOEFL test due to exam cancellations, you may submit Duolingo English Test results instead.
• GRE and GMAT Waiver: We understand that many GRE and GMAT testing facilities are closed due to the coronavirus. As a result, Illinois Tech has changed our test requirements for the spring and fall 2023 semesters. We are no longer requiring students to submit GRE or GMAT scores for all master’s programs.
All degree-seeking applicants—except those eligible for the GRE waiver—are required to submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. Illinois Tech Stuart School of Business graduate programs do not require students to submit GRE or GMAT scores.
GRE and GMAT scores are considered valid for five years from the testing date. If your scores are more than five years old at the time your application is reviewed, new scores will be required.
The GRE requirement is waived for applicants to professional master’s degree programs (architecture programs are not included) who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the United States with a cumulative undergraduate grade-point average of 3.0/4.0 or higher.
If you believe you meet this qualification, you must contact the Office of Graduate Admission to request this waiver. Once you have uploaded your official undergraduate transcripts (and résumé for business programs) for verification, we will review your request. After you submit an application, you will see the test score requirement in your Application Tracker as “waived” if you received the waiver.
The chart below shows the minimum scores required for admission consideration. GRE requirements are subject to change, so please reference the graduate bulletin or your academic department's website for the most up-to-date information.
If your scores do not meet these minimum requirements, we encourage you to consider retaking the exam.
For tests taken on or after five (5 years) from your application completion date
