Planning to transfer to Illinois Tech? You can use our online course equivalency tools to explore how coursework from other colleges or universities may transfer.
Illinois Tech provides two complementary resources:
- Transferology allows you to enter all of your completed or planned courses and receive personalized course-matching results.
- TES Public View allows you to browse Illinois Tech’s published transfer-course equivalencies by college or university.
These resources provide an unofficial preview of how coursework may transfer. Your official transfer-credit evaluation will be completed after you are admitted to Illinois Tech and the university receives your official transcripts.

Browse Published Equivalencies in TES Public View
The Transfer Evaluation System (TES) Public View provides direct access to Illinois Tech’s published transfer-equivalency database. Instead of entering courses individually, you can select a college or university and browse the equivalencies Illinois Tech has established for that institution.
Use TES Public View if you want to:
- Browse published equivalencies for a particular institution
- Review individual course-to-course equivalencies
- View equivalency rules involving course sequences
SEARCH ILLINOIS TECH’S TES PUBLIC VIEW
Understanding Your Search Results
A course listed in Transferology or TES Public View has been reviewed and assigned an Illinois Tech equivalency. Depending on the course, it may transfer as:
- A direct equivalent to a specific Illinois Tech course
- Departmental or subject-area credit
- General elective credit
- Part of a combination or sequence of courses required to receive a particular equivalency
Pay close attention to course numbers, titles, credit hours, minimum grades, and any additional notes included in the equivalency rule.
If Your Course Is Not Listed
The absence of a course equivalency from Transferology or TES Public View does not necessarily mean the course will not transfer. It may mean that Illinois Tech has not previously evaluated the course, have updated course information that is needed to determine equivalency, or the course might require individual review after admission.
When an official evaluation is completed, Illinois Tech may still request additional information, such as:
A detailed course syllabus
- Course descriptions from the applicable academic catalog
- Laboratory or contact-hour information
- Learning outcomes or a list of topics covered in the course
- Documentation of prerequisites
New equivalencies are routinely added as courses are reviewed, so information in these systems may change.

How Transfer Credit Applies to Your Degree
A course may be eligible for transfer credit without satisfying a specific requirement in your intended major. Course transferability and degree applicability are related, but they are not the same determination.
The way transfer credit applies to an Illinois Tech degree depends on factors that may include:
- Your intended major
- The requirements in your applicable academic catalog
- Required course sequences and prerequisites
- Minimum grade requirements
- Residency and transfer-credit limits
- Departmental or faculty review
- Whether the course is applicable to your degree program
Students should use Transferology and TES Public View together with any additional Illinois Tech transfer guides and program-specific requirements when planning coursework. Consult with an academic adviser and/or transfer admissions counselor.
Important Transfer-Credit Policies
Courses may be considered for transfer when they are comparable in content, academic level, and scope to coursework offered at Illinois Tech.
Generally:
- A grade equivalent to C or higher is required. Courses completed with a grade of C- or below are not eligible for transfer credit.
- A maximum of 68 applicable semester credit hours may be transferred from a two-year institution. There is no maximum number of hours of transfer credit from a four-year college; however, the final 45 semester hours of any degree program must be completed at Illinois Tech.
- Career, vocational, remedial, and experiential-learning coursework may be subject to additional limitations.
- Additional departmental or faculty review may be required for some courses.
Students should consult Illinois Tech’s official transfer-credit policies outlined in the undergraduate catalog for complete requirements and limitations.

Current Illinois Tech Students Considering Taking a Course Elsewhere
Current Illinois Tech students must obtain documented approval before registering for any coursework at another institution by submitting a transfer credit petition with the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs.
Transferology’s Find a Replacement Course feature can help identify courses that may be equivalent to a required Illinois Tech course. However, a Transferology or TES match does not replace Illinois Tech’s approval process.
Before enrolling elsewhere, consult with an appropriate academic adviser and the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs to confirm the course is approved and will apply to your degree requirements.
When Will I Receive an Official Transfer-Credit Evaluation?
Transferology and TES Public View provide unofficial planning information. An official transfer-credit evaluation is completed after you:
- Apply and are admitted to Illinois Tech; and
- Submit official transcripts from every college or university you attended.
Once your evaluation is completed, your awarded transfer credit will be available through the Degree Works Auditing system once access has been granted. Your academic adviser can help you understand how the credit applies toward your degree requirements.
