Compete in a Tech Competition for Credit!

Students registered in an Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) Program course falling in the Tech Competitions track will get the opportunity to build a piece of technology and compete in a nationally recognized competition! With a clear set of deliverables set by the competition, each eligible IPRO course often includes registered student organizations on the Illinois Tech campus that operate like a startup and give the opportunity for students to develop skills in creative problem solving, leadership, project management, self-advocacy, outreach, and ethics.

Competitions include:

  • United States Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon (solar-powered houses)
  • Formula Electric car design competition led by the Society of Automotive Engineers (electric race car)
  • American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’s Design/Build/Fly (aircraft) competition
  • International Genetically Engineered Machine (IGEM) competition

In a peer-led environment, students will get to design and address challenging and inherently interdisciplinary issues such as sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and technological constraints toward a global impact.
